Rockbrook Students win top awards at Young Scientist Exhibition

Projects from Rockbrook Park School were among the winners at the Young Scientist exhibition at the weekend.
Andrej Pacher from Ballycullen won the top individual award from Google for his study on gaming entitled General
Use Augmented Reality Project. He also won the 3rd prize in the Technology category award, and received an overall
Technology Award and a project Display Award..
Tristan O’Reilly from Ballycullen and Conor Scally from Rathfarnham also picked up a 3rd place senior award in the
Social and Behavioural category. They carried out a five country study on the use and abuse of YouTube sites. This
project also received an Eircom Junior Spider Award in the week preceding the exhibition.
Principal Mark Hamilton expressed delight with the winning projects. ‘We entered two projects, the students
involved work hard on them over the past year, and they thoroughly deserved the awards. In a small school like
ours success like this creates a great buzz, so I expect we will have great interest in the Young Scientist for
next year. There is a growing interest in the sciences and we are continually trying to cultivate that among our
students.
