The school generally operates exam periods as follows:
– the last three days up to midterm in October
– early February (including mock exams)
– the last three/four days to summer break
Under the new Junior Cycle arrangements some teachers may not give formal exams in October or February but the will report on student progress. The Assessment & Reporting plans for 1st and 2nd year are under review in 2019/20 – parents will be informed as the year progresses.
In addition to the above, occasional class tests and new Junior Cycle CBAs (Classroom Based Assessments) are held throughout the year in 1st to 3rd year.
The 3rd and 6th years will have full mock exams over five (JC) to eight (LC) days leading up to February midterm break. In general, it is school policy during examination week that a student be in school, even if he is not sitting an exam on the day in question. However, for mock exams, a 6th year student with no afternoon exam may go home at lunchtime. If a 6th year has no morning exam during the mock exams he need not present himself in the school until his next exam is due.
Student Assessments or Reports are posted to families around the following dates:
– after week 11 (early November), week 22 (late February), week 34 (mid June) for 1st, 2nd, 5th yrs.
– in mid-December and late May for 4th years
– after week 11 & after mocks (late February/early March) for 3rd and 6th years
A new format for school reports will operate during 2019/2020. A key objective is to help students and parents how they can progress their learning to the next stage. Reports will normally be available on or before scheduled parent-teacher meetings in winter and spring to maximise their impact. This will allow for informed consultation with class teachers, ensuring that parents are very much part of their son’s education in Rockbrook.
