All students take English, Maths, Irish (unless exempted by the Department of Education) and Religious Knowledge. Students usually choose four additional subjects, one of which should, ideally, be a modern language, i.e. French or Spanish.
Of the remaining three subjects, students should at least give serious consideration to selecting one science subject and Business – depending on their aptitudes and career ambitions. The school recommends a student take a broad base of subjects rather than focusing on one particular area.
The other subjects currently available are: French, Spanish, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business, Geography, History, Art, Music and Economics. Subject choices will vary each year depending on student preference. The subject bands are decided in the spring based on surveys conducted among TY students.
